File:Barack Obama Hope poster.jpg

Shepard Fairey is known for creating the Andre the giant has a posse sticker. At first it was for his peers and friends, but then the public got curious and it turned into a popular thing. He created a series of posters supporting Barrack Obama. One of them includes the iconic hope poster. It helped Obama win the campaign, and Fairey had sold around 300,000 stickers and 500,000 posters during the campaign. He did not keep any of the money for himself, instead he used it to make more art work.

I choose to work with the jobless people issue. Most of these poster will have a homeless person on the poster and the words will probably say hire me. People might also put their own twists to it. I would put the words help at the bottom of the poster. I will also use 3 to 4 pantone spot colors. Most people who make posters like this use the ideas of Shepard Fairey.

Assignment 19 reflection

I choose Ted's Hot Wings because I wanted to have some spice or fire on my business card. The top left picture is a picture of a chicken created using two chicken legs. For the font, I used a fiery, burning font and I colored it red. The flaming blob in the middle represents fire, or wing sauce. Some of the text at the bottom was also in fiery text.

Color is called the silent sales person. It attracts the eye, tell the person about you and your business, and makes a sale. Blue is a global color. It can symbolize peace, tranquility, trust, and knowledge.
Black can be seen as the color of authority and seriousness. It is a mysterious color and shows feelings of class and elegance. Green is one of the most cited favorite colors. Green shows environment and eco-friendliness.  Orange is a playful color and should not be used to convey a serious message. Purple is a good color to use on children because studies show that 75% of children prefer purple.  Red is the warmest and a energy refreshing color in the spectrum. It shows passion, speed, and strength. It was a signal for battle for Romans.

Most businesses try to make the coolest and most creative business cards that represent their company. If business card only has one plain color to it and nothing more, the viewer will most likely get bored. If he was viewing a cool or creative business card, he will most likely hold on to the card and show it to all of his friends and family about how cool the card is and some one will eventually want to use the card to contact the person. Most business cards will have the person's name, the position he is in, his company name, the street it is located at, state, city, fax, website, and his email address.

Most companies in competition will usual try to create the best business card because usually the card that is most creative and cool will attract more people to pick it up, give it a quick read or feel, and he or she will either keep it , throw it away, or put it back. If the person chooses to keep it, you most likely have a future sale because he or she might also show the card to other people of how cool it was. Some business cards of  companies in competition will also state reasons why their company is better, or they might even put a coupon on the business card.

i choose to use this example because it shows creativity and is very cool. Lush is a lawn enhancement company so in their business card, they added seeds into it. They give you instructions on how to plant and grow the seeds, and in the second picture it says to add lush which is the company.

I choose to use this example because it is very creative and unique. It advertises a farm and is most likely also selling wool. The person advertises his farm by creating a business card with a sheep on it and there it real wool on the sheep. People who pick this up will most likely not put it back or throw it away. People might check out the farm or they might show the card to friends and family so they can see how cool and creative the card is. In turn those people will also tell tell their friends and family about the card and it will be very good business.

I choose to use this as an example because it is very unique. You stretch it a couple of times and you get tired, so you have to call the person which is a personal trainer. This is a nice way to advertise his job that he goes, and it probably gets him a lot of sales too.

Some good visual hierarchy of elements would be putting a picture that will get the readers eye to go there first when he or she reads it for the very first time. Do not put a long paragraph, just put some simple information like the phone, name, address, e-mail, and excreta. You should also not overwhelm the reader with pictures. You need the right combination of pictures, and text to make a nice business card.

Assignment 18 reflection

This is my assignment 18's reflection. I choose St. Henri's Hotel because the other two choices did not appeal to me. The name had St. in it so I choose to put a sign that you put the street name in and I also put a road next to that. I used 4 Pantone Spot colors. I think that the green St. and the purple Henri Hotel go very well with everything.

The colors used in word marks are the colors that you use that you want to represent your company. Work marks such as NASA symbolize space and future, while google and coke work marks are one of the most famous world wide. Most work marks use red or blue as their dominant color. Some competition would be with Fed ex and USPS or UPS.

This is one of the most famous work marks in the world. It has not been changed since it was created in the late 18 hundreds. In different languages the coke logo will be and look in the same font, but the language that it is written in varies. The typeface that was chosen, Spencerian Script, was the most famous form of formal handwriting at the time.

I choose the FedEx logo because its logo signifies moving forward. The negative space between the e and the x create an arrow. I thought that it was pretty cool of the company to create a logo that could incorporate an arrow into the design.

The Citi logo was unique because it had the curve representing the dots for the i's. The person who designed this work mark designed it in a second. In a meeting she sketched this logo quickly with a pen on a napkin. The company could not find a logo they wanted before until she sketched it on the napkin.

Assignment 17 reflection

I choose to do the Three Tree Landscaping company because I felt most comfortable by using the color green, and the only company that I saw that could use green to show their eco-friendliness and there work with the environment was the Three Tree Landscaping. I choose to use three trees because it was in the name and it resembled the company very well. I used a straight bark for the middle tree and also making it taller than the other trees. For the other two, I made them the same size and i put a slight edit to the ends of the bark. Last i added grass around the trees, and I outlined the name of the company in green. I got the inspiration of this from seeing other landscaping companies logos many of them had trees and leaves and a lot of green.

Red is a intense color it can show war and blood or love and passion. It can raise some ones blood pressure or make them hungry.

Orange is a color more used to symbolize playfulness.

Yellow can represent sunshine , happiness, or caution

Green can be a restful and smoothing color or jealousy and inexperience, also companies that are eco-friendly will most likely use green.

Blue is a calming color and can show authority, success, and security. It is the most popular color in logo design and can be seen a lot in government and fortune 500 company logos.

Companies in competition such as Ups and Fed ex and USPS, Ups is different because it choose to use brown a less popular color that logo designers use. While the other two use bright colors and white.

Mc Donalds and Burger king are in competition in the fast food industry. Mc Donald's logo is the well known arch and Burger King's well known logo is the well known burger with their company name inside.

Since i'm choosing to do Three Tree Landscape for my assignment, I decided to look for other landscaping companies logos and other companies that deal with grass cutting and excreta. I choose this one because it had a nice name to it which can resemble their work or quality, and with a leaf as their picture.

I choose this landscaping company's logo because it is very easy to memorize in the brain. There is a tree with steams and a small curve of grass, and their company name was placed at the bottom. You can see that both the companies I have posted use the color green a lot. Like i said earlier companies that are eco friendly or have some thing to do with the environment use the color green a lot.

Visual hierarchy is probably the most important design principle that cartographers use. The map's purpose determines which visual aspects of the map should be most important. Size, color, alignment, contrast, repetition, and proximity.

Logotype Prezzi

it is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations, and individuals.

referred to as logo

many inventions and techniques have contributed to the contemporary logo.
including logographic languages like Egyptian hieroglyphs, coats of arms, water marks, and the printing technology.

as the industrial revolution developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. photography, and lithography (an early method of printing) contributed to the boom of an advertising industry that integrated typography on one page. The same time typography was undergoing a revolution of form and expression that expanded beyond the modest, serif typefaces used in books.

The arts were expanding in purpose-from expression and decoration of the artistic, storytelling nature to a differentiation of brands and products that the growing middle class were consuming. Consultancies and trades-groups in the commercial arts were growing and organizing: in 1890 the us had 700 lithographic printing firms employing over 8,000 people. Children's books, authoritative newspapers, and conversational periodicals developed their own visual and editorial styles for unique, expanding audiences.

Printing costs decreased, and literacy rates went up, and visual styles changed, the Victorian decorative arts lead to an expansion of typographic styles and methods of representing business.

Modernism had shed its roots as an avant-grade artistic movement in Europe to become an international, commercialized movement in the United States and elsewhere. Visual simplicity and conceptual clarity that were the hallmarks of Modernism as an artistic movement formed a powerful toolset for a new generation of graphic designers.

Modernist-inspired logos proved successful in the era of mass visual communication ushered in by television, improvements in printing technology, and digital innovations.

Combination mark: they are graphics with both text and a symbol or icon. Signifies brand images. Compliments icons or symbols. Can be incorporated into it or not, but look as if they are in one piece.

Iconic/Symbolic: compelling yet uncomplicated images. It is more direct and more abstract but the viewer is still able to tell what company it is. Instantly recognizable, small, and memorizable.

Word mark: Company name into a uniquely styled font. Many variations, styles, and shapes. Letter mark is just initials and word mark is the company

The Grid: way of organizing content on a page, using any combination of margins, guide lines, row, and columns

Modernism: Poped up during the 50's. Design in general will take this modern form and we still use it today. Assist the audience by breaking info into manageable chunks and establishing relationships between text and images.

A grid consists of distinct set of alignment based relationships that act as guides for distributing elements across a format

Every design is different; therefore every design will require a different grid structure one that addresses the particular elements within the design.Grid is used to clarify and unify things.

#15 research & inspiration

My research that i did for this was try to find out how to make the paper back ground and how people wrote things in the old days, I decided to to flowers in my background and letter because they were a popular choice to put on written things back then. I choose the song Heart Breaker by Taio Cruz. It starts with woah woah, so thats why my big letter was a W. This was a good experience for me because it thought me how i could make better backgrounds and how to use brushes.
