Production Artist

Some one who assists the graphic designer. They are the ones who stay up late and edit and check the designers work and rarely get credit for it. It can be one of the most least paying jobs in the graphics design industry. The Person must know how to use these programs: Quark Express or Adobe Indesign , Adobe Illustrator , Adobe Photoshop , and Adobe Acrobat . 
You should know kerning and tracking.  You will need to check sizes, know differences between the color modes ect. You can get this job right after finish your 4 years at college.  
An opportunity for growth would be when in the future, there will be new companies or companies that want to get more technical and hire graphic designers with there production artists. There are many companies that will hire production artists such as Credit Suisse a private company, and there are school that might want you to work on their school newspaper or website. The salary is around 40 to 50 thousand a year.  First of all you can take graphics design classes, and you can also intern for many companies that need or will hire production artists. You can also be hired to work on the school news paper. There are senior production artists in the field which get paid more and have to do more work. This can be one of the least rewarding jobs in the graphics design industry. Maximum pay for this career would be from 80 to 100 thousand.
